THE good harvest and the conse-quent improvement in procure-ment and distribution of food-grains has removed the major issue which the Opposition was using to rouse popular discontent against the Government. And, pre-dictably, the Chaliha group in the Congress is taking advantage of the opportunity to consolidate its grip over the State's politics. The Opposition is trying to salvage the gains it had made in the last general elections by organising gheraos and food demonstrations and inciting police action, in the hope that all this will prevent the people from settling into a political stupor which can benefit only the Congress
