STC s Progress Gains of Size

Siemens Centenary SIEMENS has celebrated its centenary in India with a glow of sentiment and pride. Of all German enterprises which broke through the Imperial barrier in the 19th century, Siemens came out the largest and most successful. It came to be identified with power equipment long before competing British and American names appeared in this country. The quiet confidence with which operations were resumed after 1950 and pushed hard after 1957 has proved worthwhile. Siemens India is the largest and most rapidly growing overseas subsidiary of the organisation, though it accounts for less than 2 per cent of its world turnover, Rs 20 crores out of Rs 1400 crores. It has three factories in Bombay, and collaboration arrangements with Cable Corporation, Bharat Bijlee and Jaipur Metals, whose products are marketed through Siemens. There is also a collaboration with Government- owned Bharat Electronics. Roughly three-fourths of Siemens turnover in India consists of indigenously manufactured goods.
