It has not been explained why the Government has changed its mind about setting up a corporation, but one reason could be that a company would be less subject to legislative control than a corporation. But along with Marathwada, other backward regions such as Vidarbha and Konkan, which are incidentally richer in terms of natural resources, deserve immediate attention. Any discrimination in this respect would, apart from widening economic disparities, lead to political controversies.
