Hindustan Lever THE vice-chairman of Hindustan Lever, R Ramaswami, stated at the Company's annual general meeting recently that the production of vanaspati industry has lagged far behind demand over the past few years owing to shortage of raw materials. The vanaspati industry, which is the second largest food industry in the country, next only to sugar, has been taking growing interest in providing advice and agricultural inputs at subsidised prices to a selected number of farmers in a bid to show that yields could be increased significantly. The Company is the largest manufacturer of vanaspati in India.
