To attempt the biography of a contemporary political figure, very much in the centre of the current scene, is no easy job. Events and personalities crowd round one, making it impossible to get them in proper focus and this naturally affects judgment. Views and opinions are apt to be strongly held and if the author wishes to avoid stepping on sensitive toes or stirring up controversies, he has to risk sounding wishy-washy. And since the career of the subject is yet to run its full span, time may prove the author's conclusions to be woefully off the mark.
