This was more than offset by a decline in sales to other industries, particularly steel and chemical works, with the result that total sales to high tension industrial consumers at. 1,467 million units fell by 2.1 per cent. Sales to domestic consumers at 514 million units were only-6 million units (1.2 per cent) more than in the year before; in recent yean, Calcutta Electric's sales in this category were increasing at an average annual rate of 7.5 per cent. Macpherson attributes this marked decline to recession in the Calcutta area. Its accounts for 1966-67 and 1967-68 are not comparable because of the rupee and sterling devaluations, respectively.
