August 2J, 1969 proved to be inadequately robust while the "archaic" social structure has proved maddeningly resilient, This result should not be too surprising, however, at least to social historians; for Indian society has demonstrated time and again its inexhaustible capacity to dilute and devour the most potent of injected cultures. Thus the current Indian tendency, particularly at the policy level, to follow rather blindly the pattern of scientific development of the technologically advanced societies as they are today, without learning from their experience or making allowances for the historical experience, cultural background and present social structure of Indian society
