To meet our requirements of sulphur we have to depend mainly on imports. Is it necessary that we go on importing sulphur when we can do without it? According to many soil chemists and agronomists, use of sulphur in the manufacture of phosphatic fertilisers is not essential Sulphur becomes necessary only when we want high water-soluble phosphates (with a solubility of 50 per cent or more).
