OF THE WORLD'S 3.3 billion people, Asia claims over a half within only one-fifth of the total world area. And out of the Asian share of one and a half billion or so, China and India alone claim over two-thirds. These figures are increasing at the rate of 2.5 to 3.5 per cent per year. Moreover, the current birth rate ensures an age structure that is most favourable to bringing in large additions to the huge numbers that already exist, That, in 'pill' is the threat of growing numbers.
