How Appropriate Is Inappropriate

Romesh Diwaa Appropriate Technologies for Developing Countries by Richard S Eckaus; National Academy of Science, Washington, DC, 1977; THIS is a report prepared by the author for the panel on 'Appropriate Technologies for Developing Countries' of the Board on Science and Technology for International Development (BOSTID) which is a part of the National Research Council's Commission on International Relations. The board members of the National Research Council come, inter alia, from the National Academy of Science, the publisher of this report. The report's genesis was in a request by US AID to BOSTID "to study the issues inherent in the 'appropriate' technologies". This explains the title of the report. "The views finally expressed in the document those of Professor Eckaus, with broad concurrence by members of the panel." In view of the elite nature of the groups associated, this report expresses the concerns, fears, and opinions of the establishment'.
