P C Randeria Top management's response to the call for rural development is somewhat artificial, moved as they are by PR or political or other compulsions. The indifference or cynicism amongst middle and lower management ranks towards rural development is a true reflection of our corporate condition, It is this which finally prevails over the rhetoric of the brass. We are, therefore, left with symbolic or peripheral rural development efforts by industry.
