Women and Empowerment

This article charts the growth of Shri Mahila Griha Udyog Lijjat Papad, from its inception to the present, when its role as a vital avenue for promoting women's empowerment has been recognised. Empowerment as envisaged by the Shri Mahila Griha Udyog Lijjat Papad, however, is more than a mere boosting women's earning capabilities. It enables an assertion of all the other rights and to her own personal space in a patriarchal society.

Women s Status and Education

was only in the period following the second war, however, that we see the establishment of democracy. The US as the victorious power which made itself responsible for the rest of the world (my words not the author's), installed democracy in western and central Europe, Japan and South Korea, As colonies became independent they adopted democratic constitutions, or were given democratic constitutions by the departing imperial power. In Latin America we saw waves of democracy in Argentina, Costa Rica and Brazil. Turkey established the competitive electoral system, and democracy was widened in France as women got the right to vote. The US gave political rights to native Americans, and Britain abandoned plural voting. The franchise was extended to women in central and east European countries.
