November 13, 1979 Those who consider industrialisation as the only answer to the question of poverty in rural India would do well to reflect on the squalor created by the recommendation of mechanisation for heralding Green Revolution. Since rapid industrialisation is the dominant ideology of many underdeveloped countries, it is necessary to ask if technology can be a viable alternative to changes in social relations of produc tion.
