Growth of Budgetary Subsidies of Central Government

Central Government M V Raghavachari Subsidies provided by the Government of India through the budget have recorded a phenomenal rise from Rs 7 crores in 1954-55 to Rs 1172 crores in 1977-78. Their share in the government's total budgetary expenditure has also gone up sharply from about 1 per cent in 1954-55 to 7.6 per cent in 1977-78.

Technological Progress in the Sugar Industry

M V Raghavachari The sugar industry grew very rapidly between 1947-48 and 1965-66, largely because of the technological advance made in it. The following article examines how this technological advance has been reflected in the industry s productivity by considering separate input:total-output ratios for the various raw materials, fuels, capital, and labour applied for production.
