M S Bhatia Forecasts of crop production in advance of final estimates serve as an important aid for policy-makers in taking decisions on pricing, procurement, export, import, etc. Production forecasting models based on crop-weather relationship have, of late, drawn the attention of both researchers and policy-makers. This paper attempts to provide forecasts of kharif foodgrains production for 1997 if rainfall during the south-west monsoon behaves as per the forecast of the India Meteorological Department.
