Exploitation and Labour Theory of Value Khalid Nadvi MY thanks to J E Roemer for his exhaustive response [Roemer 1986] to my article [Nadvi 1985] published last year in the EPW, The majority of points raised by Roemer focus upon a defence of the methodology employed by him in his book, the "General Theory of Exploitation and Class" (GTEC) along with an attack on my own defence of the Labour Theory of Value. A number of these points are closely interlinked and I have consequently taken the liberty of not answering each point individually. Although, I believe in my response below I have covered most, if not all, of them. While I have not discussed the Labour Theory of Value directly, it is implicitly present in my argument.

It is the author's contention, however, that Roemer's method and the model that it produces are highly flawed and reject certain aspects of a Marxian approach which are central.
