Production Stability and Food Self-Sufficiency Firdousi Naher The agricultural sector in Bangladesh has achieved remarkable growth since the advent of the green revolution in the late 1970s, However, contrary to the results obtained in the Indian scenario, a comparison of the pre- green revolution period with the post-green revolution one reveals a clear trend of reduced instability in the case of Bangladesh. At the interregional level also, instability seems to have gone down. Despite these favourable features the country is yet to achieve food self-sufficiency. Though Bangladesh is fast approaching rice self- sufficiency, the one track focus on rice and wheat is unlikely to bring desired results.
