Towards a More Work-Oriented Schooling

Eugene Staley It is argued here that the schools can help substantially in the fight against poverty if, and only if, they undergo a fairly drastic process of curriculum reform. This means changes in the content of instruction' in the methods of instruction, and in the evaluation of achievement (examination reform). Merely 'more of the same9 could be counter-productive by generating more alienated youth, unable to find ready- made jobs for which they are suited or which suit them, and unable to generate their own jobs by self- employment and entrepreneur ship.
