Psychology and Challenge of Postmodern Condition Ananta Giri Postmodern challenge to psychology is not confined to the reconceptualisation of the human need and the rethinking of the process of moral development. It is a challenge to the very authority of psychology, particularly to the authority of psychoanalysis. Drawing upon a number of important works of postmodern thought, this paper builds a case for a renewal of psychology through a process of participation in a genuine 'blurring of genres'.

Creating a Community of Discourse in Sociology in India Ananta Giri IN her provocative article 'Sociological Research in India: The State of Crisis' (EPW, June 5) Veena Das has raised some important questions regarding the practice or sociological research in India. One cannot disagree with Das's description or the lack of competence in sociological research in India today. Her plea for restoring "a dignity to dull, honest, plodding research" calls for critical reflection and creative response from all of us who are concerned with the problem.
